Amongst the many soloists who have joined the nmo to perform concertos together on the London concert platforms, virtuoso pianist John Lill wrote:
Please convey my warmest and sincerest gratitude to the orchestra, which, under your excellent and sympathetic collaboration and direction, afforded me marvellous and inspiring support during the Mozart concerto [D minor K.466]. It meant, for me, an unusually enjoyable and stimulating musical and social experience.

Other soloists of renown include Steven Isserlis and Howard Shelley, and in earlier years the international opera stars Sir Geraint Evans and Elizabeth Harwood. The nmo has also given encouragement to many younger soloists at the start of their careers, such as the outstanding Chinese violinist, Mengla Huang.
